Born and raised in "Old Town" Orange, California, Sara Paloma grew up surrounded by old houses, antique stores and her parents collections of vintage objects. Artistic from an early age, Sara took her first ceramics class in 1993 as a requirement for an art education degree. Falling instantly in love with the medium, she began setting up her own basement studio upon graduation from Cal State Long Beach in 1995. After years of sharpening her craft in the off hours of jobs in museums and animation, Sara made the jump to full time studio potter in 2002. A move from Los Angeles to the Bay Area soon followed, where she set up a permanent home and studio in a live/work artist co-op in Emeryville. She currently resides there with her husband Tom Story, an editorial photographer, and their two babies. Influenced by the shapes and silhouettes of the urban landscape around her, Sara Paloma's wheel thrown stoneware vessels explore the quiet beauty of the exquisitely made form. |
